My passion for fitness came at a time when I was very over weight and very unhappy. I had tried countless times to lose weight with limited success. I would start at a gym, go for a few weeks and stop then start eating healthy, then stop.
I had a revelation that if I really wanted to change then I would need to take a whole new approach…after all, the definition of insanity is to think you can keep doing the same thing, expecting to see a different result.
I convinced myself that a lifestyle change was needed, not a diet, not a gym membership but a completely new approach.
To get started I self educated myself about training and tried a ton of diets.
I trained 6 days a week ate very strictly for 3 months and lost 8 kg’s, I kept training and eating right and finally after 9 months I lost nearly 20 kg’s.
Needless to say I was a new man and people really noticed.
People wanted to know how I did it, what workout and diet did I follow to get such good results. I explained there was no quick fix and it was just having the motivation to make a lasting chance and committing to being consistent. The days you don’t feel like training are the days you need to go.
After all, Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you.
How did I stay Committed? It was purely the fact I didn’t want to go back to the old me. That single thing drove me to keep hitting the gym and educating myself around how to eat healthy in a way that was sustainable.
It was a lifestyle change I wanted and needed not a fad.
I became passionate about helping other like me who couldn’t get out of a rut, who desperately wanted to get fit and healthy but couldn’t, at the end of the day, If I can do it anyone can!
So I decided to gain a formal qualification to expand my knowledge and began studying Personal Training at AUT so that I could then have the tools to help people like you.
I have been training with Gavyn for three months, and in that time I have seen a large improvement in both my fitness and appearance. During this time I have lost 2stone 7pounds. He has made me feel relaxed and has been very patient with me.
Gavyn has addressed my nutrition and has really helped me to understand what to eat and when. He has helped me to balance my diet with a food plan, ensuring that not only am I eating the right foods to lose weight but that I’m also taking in enough energy for my new active lifestyle.
Gavyn is constantly monitoring my fitness level making sure the workout he has designed for me is always challenging but appropriate to my personal goals. He has varied the training sessions which has helped to keep me motivated and has talked me through every exercise making sure I’m doing them correctly and safely.
He offers great support throughout, with a friendly and enthusiastic attitude and although it’s hard work, training with Gavyn is always enjoyable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to lose weight and / or improving fitness. – Brodie L
Gavyn’s programmes through Trainerize have managed to keep me motivated where Gym Programmes have gotten boring very quickly. Even on the days I can’t get to the Gym I can manage a full work out from home with the kids. My goal was never to lose weight but to get fit and improve my body shape. This is definitely working! I am using exercise routines that Gavyn designed for me some weeks ago. I have combined two of them and often mix and match the exercises around depending on how I feel on the day. I have definitely lost weight and I can see and feel the positive changes in how I perform each time I go to the gym. This is a huge improvement on how I was working out for years previously, which was so boring ! Once he had given me my first routine I felt so motivated to get in the gym and work through it and it has definitely changed my mindset in a positive direction. Thanks Gavyn for the opportunity to train with you. In the four weeks I have had the privilege of using your system I have passed by PCT in under two minutes, lost four kilograms and I feel physically stronger.
Your system works and I put it down to a couple of things. Firstly, it I have been held accountable. I know what training I have to do for the day so there are no surprises and I know if I didn’t check in you would see this and questions would be asked!!!
Secondly, all my questions and queries were a quick message away. Whenever I had anything to ask you replied promptly and succinctly so having that contact was very important.
Thirdly, it was a fun program. I think people forget to have fun making exercise and healthy living a lifestyle choice. It was varied, challenging and I was experiencing results which made it easy to get myself to the gym each time.
I would highly recommend your program to my peers and look forward to linking up with you again!
I have been training with Gav online for about 4 months, one thing I like is that the plans rotate monthly.
This keeps the workouts fresh and is always working new muscle groups to get better results. One reservation I had was whether or not I needed a personal trainer or if I should just try and work it out by myself.
I’ve spent a fair bit of time in the gym previously, but just didn’t know where to start. You made the process of starting to go to the gym again very easy and created a plan that worked in perfectly with the level I was at at the time.
That made it significantly easier to get the motivation to start a new habit. My two top goals when I started were to get back to a weight I thought was more reasonable and to get fit for my hobbies.
I have lost 10kg’s since starting, I’m noticeably fitter and more capable, I have increased my strength, I have gained an understanding of what my body needs to work at its best and I have become become far more aware of the impact of diet on the progress I want.
I would like to add that Gav has really made the process of starting to get back in to shape extremely easy. If you work with Gav and give him the information he needs there is no doubt he will get you the results you’re after and more. Sam S

Since starting training I have gained more confidence, I’ve lost some kilos, learned discipline and hard-work. I like the way you continue to believe in me as it makes me feel that I can succeed in gaining an improved level of fitness and subsequent weight loss. Some of the reservations I had prior to working together were that I would be unable to keep up with anything too strenuous. I was worried that I would fail again in any attempt to lose weight or become more fit and active. I was also concerned that I would be judged as old and fat and lazy. Basically I thought I was past it!!!
You helped me by beginning my exercise regime at a realistic level, building on that and continuing to motivate and challenge me to achieve which has led to a sense of pride in my achievements so far. Those feelings of failure flare up occasionally, but I find my desire to continue to improve is now over riding self-doubt. An unbelievably non-judgemental approach has been so motivating – your tolerance astounds me. My main goals were to

The patience that Gavyn has shown is amazing. He has a great sense of humour which makes the sessions interesting and enjoyable, yet he is still able to push me to limits I find challenging. I like the way he ensures that each session has a variety of exercises to prevent boredom. Gavyn has an inherent sense of what is appropriate, demonstrating a fine balance between motivation to drive me further and consideration for my age and abilities. Gavyn is a great motivator and this was by far one thing that kept me going.
I did have reservations about starting and that was my own reluctance to get started, lack of motivation and not succeeding in weight loss. I always knew my general health would improve but weight loss was my ultimate aim.
Gavyn encouraged me to take the first step by having an initial assessment. I had absolutely no motivation to take control of getting healthy and losing weight, which in the past I had not struggled with. From that first meeting I was hooked and his website and online programmes made it so easy and so much fun

Online Personal training is a great service and you’re very positive and encouraging.
You are kind and understanding in that you don’t expect us to go hard out like a lot of trainers. You understand that it’s an often slow and difficult process. Also not expecting us to give up everything we like too. It’s not long lasting if we can’t keep up the changes. I’ve started moving. Gavyn had his work cut out with me as I had quite a few goals to push toward, not necessarily to drop weight but just to be as toned and strong as possible. I’ve always been an athlete and into sports, but when I first met Gavyn I was a little hesitant in pushing myself as I was recovering from a concussion. I was mentally hesitant to push myself compared to what I used to because the head injury took quite a toll on me. Also I was getting married and wanted to look the best I could for my big day. And finally, I’m a former USA College Softball player and my big goal this year was to make the New Zealand White Sox National Softball team, to compete in the ISF World Championships in Canada July 2016. All in one year, yes I know.
